DP83867IS: PHY Address is not configured.

Hi,

As per DP83867IS datasheet,all starp pins are having 9K pull down resistor.

In our customized board we are configuring PHy address as 3(0011).We have connected RXD0 pin to Rhi-2.49K and RLo-Open(To Configure Mode 4) and RXD2 pin to Rhi-Open and RLo-Open(To Configure Mode 0).

When we Measure voltage at Rhi another end of RXD0 line, the voltage expected is 1.958V.We measured 0 at that pin.If we read 0X006E register ,it always remains at zero.

Kindly guide me to get rid of this issue.

We are using in RGMII Mode.
when we probe our MDC clock ,we are getting 1.34MHz instead 2.5MHz.

Hi Mathi,

The MDC frequency is determined by your MAC. This is not something the DP83867IS controls.

Are you measuring the voltage of RX_D0 during RESET pulse or power up? The internal 9k pull-down resistor will only be present during reset, and the voltage of RX_D0 during normal operation will approach 0V or VDDIO, depending on PHY operating conditions.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply.

As per datasheet,During power initialization DP83867IS reads strap configuartion.

The values are available in register 0x006E (STRAP_STS1) and register 0x006F (STRAP_STS2).

When we trying read above mentioned 0X006E register,always returns value as 0x0.This register doesn't reflect strap configuration.

Hi Mathi,

I think you may not be accessing the extended registers properly. Most MACs do not implement the 4 register read/write method needed to properly read the values of registers 0x20 and higher.

Please review the datasheet section 8.4.2.1.3 and 8.4.2.1.4 for the proper method. If you are using the incorrect method, reading register 0x0 and reading register 0x20 will give you the same value.
