DS125DF1610: PRBS Pattern Generator

Hello,

I'm working with the DS125DF1610 PRBS Pattern Generators.  Is there a limit to the number of Pattern Generators that any can be enabled at the same time?  There is mention under Typical Applications in the datasheet (pg 72) that the number of Generators and Checkers should not be more than 16 per device.  I cannot seem to turn on more than 8 Generators at a time.  Is this correct?

    Hi,

    I'm not aware of DS125DF1610 digital function preventing the enable of more than 8PRBS blocks. However, the enabling of PRBS function on a given channel translates to a significant increase in current consumption. So, our recommendation to limit the number of PRBS blocks that are enabled at one time is more of a precaution, to prevent a retimer thermal operating condition that could lead to device reliability degradation. To ensure optimal thermal performance and minimize system power consumption I would recommend to not to enable more than 8 PRBS blocks (generator or checker) at a time.
