Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Hello Team,

There is a script example for the 953 in the datasheet, but not sure what the Bitrate of this is. How can I find this out? Also, how is this rate set?

Regards,

Ramon

  • Are you referring to section 7.6.4?
    This is 1920x 1080 resolution, 30 frame per second, RGB888 (24 bit per pixel) pattern.

    Data rate is 1920x1080x30x24x1.1(estimated blanking) = 1.64Gbps

    Hi Charley,

    Where is the 1.1 coming from? Also, how can we configure this to get maximum bitrate?

    Regards,

    Ramon

  • In reply to Charley Cai:

    How is the rate set? see next post:
  • In reply to Ramon Jimenez:

    1.1 is a quick way of estimating blanking period.

    Check this E2E e2e.ti.com/.../2657200

    Ting Ye was able to create an excel calculator for 954 patgen, which should be similar to 953.

    look for Pattern Gen 954_V5.xlsx

    Charlie,

    So to increase the bitrate I should change the following: RGB888, Hactive, Vactive, Htotal, Vtotal, Fresh Rate, and color of bars? i have not done much work with this and any insight is helpful.

    What do all these terms mean? where can I find more information on this?

    Regards,

    Ramon

  • In reply to Ramon Jimenez:

    This video might help you with some of the terms.
    training.ti.com/lvds-serdes-data-rate-and-pixel-clock

    The equation for calculating data rate is Htotal x Vtotal x Fresh Rate x bit per pixel, or Hactive x Vactive x Fresh Rate x bit per pixel x blanking percentage.
    Htotal = Hactive + blanking
    Vtotal = Vactive + blanking
    RGB888 = 24 bits per pixel.

    Increase any parameter in the equation will increase the data rate.
    To get the max data rate, the easier way is to increase Htotal and Vtotal, or Fresh Rate.
    If you use the excel sheet, it tells you which register to configure.

    What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want to the device to run at max FPDLink rate or max video data rate.
    DS90UB953/954 runs at constant rate regardless of video rate.

    Best Regards,
    Charley Cai

  • In reply to Charley Cai:

    Charley,

    Yes, we want the device configured to run at max bitrate for testing of some coax cables.

    Regards,

    Ramon

  • In reply to Ramon Jimenez:

    For this purpose, the device always runs at constant rate of 4.16Gbps.
    There is no need to modify pattern generator.

    Best Regards,
    Charley Cai
