DS90UB925Q-Q1: Daisy Chain FPD III Link Stream

Part Number: DS90UB925Q-Q1

I have a product using FPD link III using the SerDer pair (DS90UB925Q/DS90UB926Q) streaming a video stream to multiple display devices (currently 8 screens). I want to be able to send different stream to each display device by multiplexing the stream (TDM).

I have some questions regarding this pair:

  1. Is it possible to daisy chain the FPD stream without adding a repeater node? I can't find any info regarding daisy chain in the datasheet.
  2. In case we can daisy chain:
    1. Is there a way to select which deserialzer is intended e.g. via the deserializer ID?
    2. What is the number of allowed chaining levels?
  3. In case it is not possible to daisy chain or there is a limitation on the number of levels of chaining, can you advice how to achieve such configuration?

  • Hello Hisham,

It is not possible to implement a daisy chain topology with the DS90UB925Q/DS90UB926Q devices. Repeater nodes are needed to be able to reach multiple displays from a single video source. Both DS90UB925Q and DS90UB926Q datasheets discuss repeater application in more detail.

  • Hello Davor,

Thanks a lot for your answer, I will use the repeater configuration your recommended. But, I have some questions:
    1) Is that possible to add a display device after the deserializer directly besides fanning out to another serializer to expand the signal?
    2) In case I will not use the backward channel, do you recommend using the DS90UB925Q-Q1 or using another chip?
    3) Is their a serializer similar to DS90UB925Q but with 2xinput channels?
  • Hello Hisham,

    1. LVCMOS drivers on the deserializer can drive up to three LVCMOS receivers. These LVCMOS receivers may be a mix of receivers from a serializer and a display.
    2. Yes.
    3. No.
