HVDA551-Q1: CAN-FD Support Question

Part Number: HVDA551-Q1

On the datasheet, there are two particular features listed:

- Data rate up to 1Mbps

- Supports Can Flexible Data-Rate (FD)

Does the latter imply that the transceiver can accept CAN-FD messages with payloads of up to 64 bytes? Or only that the data rate can be adjusted up to 1Mbps, but the payload has to remain at a maximum 8 bytes?

Thanks,

Thomas

  • Thomas,

The CAN FD feature means that the device supports fully standardized CAN FD packets, up to 64 bytes, as defined by the ISO 11898 standard.

You may also wish to consider the TCAN1042V, which is a newer 5V CAN device with VIO that also supports CAN FD data frames. Let me know if you have any further inquiries.
