MAX3243E: what is the RS232 output voltage swing level ?

Hi,

Because some vendor chip can achieve RS-232 swing level to 8V (output loaded 3k ohm to gnd)

Can MAX3243 achieve this level ?

I think the value on VOH High-level output voltage is the same definition, right ?

the value on MAX3243 (5v) is lower than I expect, could you provide other suggestion ?

Hi Dimitry,

You are right that the MAX3243 is not designed to have such a high output level, but we will check to see if any other similar devices may be able to support this. We will get back to you tomorrow.

Dimitry,

SN75C185 can support this, but it would require an external bipolar power rail since it does not have an integrated charge pump. SN75LBC187 has a charge pump and can support 7 V (typical) output. Would either of these be suitable for your application?
