MAX3243E: MAX3243E - MAX3243EIRHBR - QFN Exposed Pad - To ground or not to Ground?

Hi,

we are designing in the MAX3243EIRHBR which is in a VFQFN package.

There is no information in the data sheet on whether the exposed thermal pad should connect to 0V on the PCB or be left floating.

Please can you advise?

Hi Chris,

The thermal pad has no internal connection. We normally recommend connecting this pad to a ground plane for better heat dissipation, but it can also be left floating if this is more convenient. The only requirement is that it is connected to the board so heat can be effectively transferred.
