TPS2547: TPS2547 wakeup from S0 to S3

Dear all,

we have application and set the system from S0 to S3, when connecting the mouse to the port, it can wake up from S3 to S0.

But when firstly connect Hub to the port, and then connect the mouse to the Hub, it can not wake up from S3 to S0, could you please advice what is the possible reason?

How is the TPS2547 configured on the 3 CTRL pins and the ILIM_Set pin?

There are many possible reasons for the behavior you are seeing.

Hi Branch,

When in S0, it is CDP mode, CTRL1/2/3 is set to 1 all, and the ILIM_SEL=1;
When is S3, it is DCP mode, and CTRL1/2/3 is set to 0/1/1 respectively, and ILIM_SEL=1;

I suspect that the HUB is not properly detecting and repeating the signaling from the mouse to wake up the hub. Do you have any way to confirm that the hub wakes up correctly?

Can you capture the D+/D- lines going into and out of the HUB?

Hi Branch,

Sorry for the late feedback.

I let customer check the D+/D- waveform, attached please find the waveform, you can download the tool in the below link to view the waveform:

Withouthub_3.3 is connect the mouse to the port directly and set the sys from S0 to S3 and then click the mouse to wakeup the system;

With_hub_3.3 is connect the mouse to the hub and hub to the port, set the sys from S0 to S3, then click the mouse, can not wakeup, and then wakeup the system using the notebook keyboard, in the waveform, Host_D+/D- is the notebook port side waveform and Device_D+/D- is the hub and mouse side waveform.

Besides, during the test, with hub connected the port, when set the system from S0 to S3, the 5V USB output will drop one time and rise again, and also , from S3 to S0, it will drop once and rise again, but without the hub, there is no such behavior, is this normal?

Attached please find the waveform with HUB:

S0_S3 is the waveform to set the system from S0 to S3;

S3_S0_USB_mouse is the waveform to set the system from S3 to S0 with USB mouse, no actions;

S3_S0_Internel_KB is the waveform to set the system from S3 to S0 with internal keyboard which will wake the system from S3 to S0;

The mouse capture (S3_S0_USB_mouse) has no transitions on the D+/D- lines to cause any change in behavior. Is this the correct capture?

Yes, with hub and connect the mouse to the hub, it can not change the state from S3 to S0, so from the waveform, is the problem happened on hub side or the PC side, how to understand it？ could you please help explain it more?

I cannot comment on the behavior of the hub, but without either a detectable change in current on VBUS from below 45mA to above 45mA or a change in the state the D+/D-, the TPS2547 will not detect a mouse wakeup event.

I think you need to follow up with the hub support team.

what do you mean the 45mA current from Vbus?

I apologize, I crossed support treads and posted part of another response.

The Wake on USB description is shown in sections 8.3.4.2 and 8.3.4.3 of the datasheet. If the hub does not follow the connection sequence required by the USB specification exactly, then the TPS2547 may enter an incorrect state and cannot detect the wakeup.

The TPS2547 will monitor the datalines for a wake signaling from the upstream device and automatically wake the system when necessary. In the capture provided, no signaling ever occurs, so the system never wakes up.

From the information I received, it is the hub that is causing the discharge behavior, so I cannot say if it is normal behavior. It appears that the TPS2547 is behaving as intended.
