Hi team,

My customer will use 953 and 954 for STP or STQ cable.

I received the question wheter the shield of cable should be connected to both Ser board and Des board or either?

    Yes, you need to connect GND for both boards.

    Thank you for your support.
    I understan that connecter shield should be connected GND for both boards.
    But they are considering to connect only one board, because GND voltage has gap.
    If shield is connected only one side, what is the impact?
    For example, EMI deteriorates, common mode current increases and etc.

    Please tell me if there is any countermeasure against a gap in the GND voltage between the boards.

    I am not sure if this is a good idea. They need between the SER and DES on the same potential

    I think that they need some countermeasure to improve the potential gap between the SER and DES board.
    I think that it is necessary to clarify the motivation to implement countermeasure.

    Could you teach me the risk if shield is connected only one side?

    Hello Tomoaki-san,

    this is a use case never tested by us and it is more system related not device related.
    I think you may leave one side of the shield not connected in your design but please keep a place holder on the board in case you will need to connect the shield to GND directly or via capacitor.
