SN65LVDS2: AC coupling and NC pin connection

Part Number: SN65LVDS2

Hi Team

Would you advise about below two inquiry?

① About A / B pin
If the input CLK is LVDS, is there a problem with direct connection?
(CLK output IC - AC coupling capacitor etc between the IC is unnecessary?
Just to be sure, let me check. In case

② About NCpin
Is NC pin of the IC correctly connected whether it is not connected or is it connected to GND?
Datasheet p4 Pin Functions: SN 65 LVDS 2, SN 65 LVDT 2 has NC: No connect stated,
Data Sheet p 15 9.3.1.4 NC Pins has the following description and it is described as connecting to GND.
"NC (not connected) pins are pins where the die is not physically connected to the lead frame or package.
For optimum thermal performance, a good rule of thumb is to ground the NC pins at the board level. "

Thanks

Best regards,

Shidara

  • Hello Shidara-san,

    1. The LVDS clock input can be connected directly to input pin (A or B).
    2. Yes; NC pin can be left unconnected or connected to ground. Connecting it to ground has a small advantage from thermal dissipation point of view as mentioned.
