TPS25810: TPS25810 with USB data lines?

I am hoping to use the TPS25810 in a new USB-C design. I need a DFP that will support up to 5V/3A.

In the data sheet (Figure 27) it references a Type-C DFP port implementation with BC1.2 support, which is what I want.

It does not show that I can also use the data lines for USB data communications. It only shows them going to a TPS2514.

Can I also run the data lines to my USB host chip?

Hi Howard,

No, if you use the TPS2514, you will be unable to connect the USB data lines to your host. You will need to use the TPS2546 instead. You will have a similar connection type. Just put the TPS2546 into CDP mode, and you will be able to pass through the data lines while having the same current capability as a DCP charger.

Does this limit me to 1.5A though? I need to support a DFP with data and 5V/3A charge capability. Also need to have the design support BC1.2.

Is there an example design you can point me to?

No it does not. If a Type-C device is plugged into the type-C port, then it will still be able to draw up to 3A at 5V. However, if a BC1.2 device was plugged into the Type-C port, then the device would be able to draw up to 1.5A at 5V while also allowing for the data lines to still pass through to your system

Thanks Adam.
So the D- and D+ from the host would feed into DM_OUT+- on the TPS2546. DM_IN goes downstream.
TPS2546 is in CDP mode (CTL3:1 = "111) and ILIM_SEL = hi.
The TPS25810A would provide VBUS downstream and to the TPS2546 and the downstream CC lines would connect to the TPS25810.
Any other connections between the two chips or required to a micro? Hoping for this to not require any microcontroller intervention.

Almost. The TPS2546 will need to share the same 5V supply as the TPS25810. Besides that, your implementation is correct. If you keep the TPS2546 in CDP mode (CTL3:1 = "111), then there is no other connection needed between the TPS2546 and TPS2581, and you will not need a microcontroller
