Part Number: TUSB9261
Hello TI & other experts,
We have started a new server series design and for that we need a secure connection the a SD hard disk. Secure in the sense that it should be read only accessible, and it is not allowed to be so via a software tick mark which is usual, but has to be via hardware. Currently we see TUSB9261 (or similar which you might be able to suggest) as a very good option for this, requiring a small firmware change that will only allow reading from the harddisk. And of course sending commands still to tell where to read from.
Is TUSB9261 the right solution for this? Can the firmware be modified by TI? Will you assist regarding this? This is not just a one-off product.
Are there other ICs that are better/equally well suited for this?
Best, Christian Ahler
It may works, but we can not support firmware changes. we only have firmware already on ti.com
We are glad that we were able to resolve this issue, and will now proceed to close this thread.

In reply to Brian Zhou:
Ok. What is possible regarding this firmware and if we cannot change this what can TI suggest that could make up a solution?
We are also interested in a solution that can only read permanently. So it could be another chip solution if you have any and it can be other interfaces than USB. As long as the SSD become readonly accessible via that chip or solution.
In reply to Christian Ahler1:
Unfortunately for USB to SATA application TUSB9261 is our only solution. This kind of read only solution may need to be done on the through SW by creating a custom SCSI driver that only implements READ commands.
In reply to Malik Barton57:
Indeed. That is what we are after. We are interested in starting a development process with you regarding this. This is not for a one-of project, but for a new server series. Our assumptions is that you software is already very close to be able to do this and only need some miner modifications. And that the chip is already a very good fit for this.
Will you be willing to engage in this collaboration? It can of course be under NDA and what is needed, if any.
We are a Scandinavian based company. We it be possible with a skype conference on this matter or possible a visit in Denmark?
Best, Christian T. Ahler
I will encourage you to reach out to your TI sales representative for this request. They will be able to help further and see if the SW can be provided.
Ok, who are the TI representatives? That will know something about this matter.
Please accept my friend request so that I can send you this information.
Very good. How do we proceed. We are eager to make this possible and are willing to invest time in this.
Feel free to call: +4522742898 (Denmark)
We will continue discussing through PM.
We are still interested in being contacted by the right person regarding this matter. What can be done to expedite this process?
