XIO2213B: Use of an external PHY

Part Number: XIO2213B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSB41BA3D

Hi,

For a new project I want to use the XIO2213B in combination with an external Phy chip. The internal Phy of the XIO2213B will not be used. Is there an application note or reference schematic available how to connect this external Phy (TI TSBx1)? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Robert.

  • Hello-

At this moment, we have generic design  guidelines provided in the  XIO2213B Implementation Guide application report.  It is available on ti.com.  What is the exact TI part number of the external Phy that you plan to use?

    Regards,

    Davor

  • Yes, I have seen the implementation guide for the XIO2213B but this described the application in case the internal Phy is used. We want to use the TSB41BA3D connected externally to the XIO2213B. Is it now still needed to power the internal Phy with 1.95V and if so, do we have to keep the '/Phy_Reset' low to disable the internal Phy? Is there an application diagram available? Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Robert, TI plans to release a new PCIe 1394b OHCI Link Layer controller that is based on the XIO2213b device without the integrated PHY. Because this is pre-release information please contact me at richard@flightwiretech.com for details.
