PCA9554A: Looking to get the information about the device junction temperature.

Part Number: PCA9554A

The datasheet shows the device operating Ambient temperature to be max upto 85°C, however there is no mention of maximum junction temperature. Looking to understand the amount of buffer available in thermal margin with respect to junction temperature over 85°C, based on the maximum allowed junction temperature, Power dissipation and thermal impedance between junction to case.

  • Hello Hemanth,

In terms of operation within all datasheet-defined parametric limits, you should assume a maximum TJ of 85 C.  This is because the device was characterized based on a forced ambient temperature of 85 C and in most cases would not heat much internally.  In terms of an "absolute maximum" junction rating (i.e., within which the device should not be damaged but could deviate in performance), though, I am trying to track down the value.  I will get back to you next week after I've had a chance to discuss further with our reliability team.

    Max

  • Hi Hemanth,

To follow up on this, it looks like the process technology used for this device was designed for an absolute maximum junction temperature of 105 C.  Please let me know if you have any further questions.
