115VAC down to USB type-C

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987D, TPS25740B

Hello,

I am working on a project that involves USB ports for aircrafts. Do you have any new switch-mode power supply devices that take 115VAC down to a the newer USB Type-C specifications where the device plugged-in may communicate the actual voltage/power requirements? In other words, an semi-intelligent switch-mode chip designed for the newer USB standards? It needs to work at 400 Hz.

THanks for the help!

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

The USB Type-C PD parts are designed for 5 V to 20 V, 5-A to or from VBUS, and lower input voltages to power the part, shown in the table from the TPS65987D datasheet below. If you would like to implement a USB Type-C PD solution, you will need to convert from AC to DC first.

Here is a reference design to start with:

Please note that the TPS25740B is not recommended for new designs and the TPS6598x family will be better suited for your USB Type-C PD needs.

To receive feedback on the areas of your design outside of your PD controller, please submit individual E2E posts to those product lines.

    Thanks,

    Emma
