PCA9306: Does the master side matter?

I am considering using the PCA9306DQER in a design where the master side is 3.3V and the slave side is 1.8V.  The datasheet indicates that the lower voltage is connected to Vref1 and also that this is the master side.  In my intended use the master side will be the higher voltage.  Will there be any problems if I connect the Master side of 3.3V to vref2 and the slave side of 1.8V to vref1?

    Alan,

    The master/slave designation is meaningless to this device - from it's perspective, both are just open-drain drivers.  The important thing is to not have VREF1 exceed VREF2.  It sounds like what you have in mind should be no problem.
