Question regarding suitability of ONET1151L for driving a laser with short pulses

HI,

My team are thinking of using an ONET 1151L to drive a laser diode. For our application, we need the laser to have multiple pulses that last about 1 nanosecond each. The laser diode we are thinking of using has a current rating of 40 mA with an input voltage of 3 volts. Will the ONET1151L (or any other laser driver in your catalog) be able to accomplish this?

The ONET1151L was not specifically designed for pulsed laser applications. The 1ns pulse width is not a problem but the repetition rate could be an issue since the part was designed for continuous data. If the repetition rate is not sufficient then some distortion may occur. This would be something that you would have to experiment with.

Thanks for the answer.

Do you know if changing the rate might help? For example, would a 200 ns pulse width repeating be better? Or 1 ns pulses that are repeated every micro second or something like that? Or will we just have to test it to find out what works best?
