TLK2521 + Optical Transceiver

Hi,

  Can somebody tell me how to connect TLK2521 and Optical Transceiver for fiber applications? This is the first I use TLK2521 SERDES. In the past we have used 8B10B to have DC-balanced data stream. Now we are thinking to remove 8B10B and using your Figure 11. Directly Coupled mode.

 We currently are using Finisar's optical transceiver

FTLF8519F2HCL. The RX/TX both have AC coupled input and output. I think this is  an issue, do you have a recommended Transceiver for TLK2521 running at 1.25GHZ or 2.5GHZ?

Thanks,

Philip

  • Hi Philip,

    You are right that it is not recommended to use the TLK2521 in AC-coupling applications without some method of providing DC balance.  It would probably be best to check with an optical module vendor to see if they have any modules rated for 1.25 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps that are capable of handling this kind of serial data.  In terms of the SerDes, the only way to handle this would be to (1) use an encoding scheme (e.g., 8b/10b) that enforces DC balance or (2) use a scrambling scheme on the data being input to the TLK2521 to statistically bound the maximum run length/baseline wander without adding coding overhead.

  • Max,

      In your datasheets, it mentioned it can be hooked up the optical transceiver. Can you tell me how you manage to do that? What transceiver part did you use to test?

    Thanks,

    Philip

  • Dear;

      Could you please take an example about  useing a scrambling scheme on the data being input to the TLK2521 to statistically bound the maximum run length/baseline wander without adding coding overhead?  I am not completely understand it.

    Very appreciated

  • Dear....

    Would you tell me what scrambling scheme is recommended for tlk2521??? Or any scrambler chips for tlk2521??

    Best Regards...
