HD3SS3412 - 4:1 Video Switching application

Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for a 4:1 video switch for HDMI and Display port.

I think HD3SS3412 could be used from the bandwidth spec, however, it does not have enough input channels.

Can you achieve 4:1 switch by cascading the HD3SS3412 using as the figure below ? I appreciate it if you could tell me any concerns or problem which may occur in this configuration.

Please also tell me if there is a better solution.

Best Regards,
Kawai

  • Hello,

This had been posted on the wrong forum and we've just received your question today.

we are going to look at this and reply shortly.

  • Hello Kawai,

What are they going to do to the AUX channel and to the DDC lines for DP and HDMI respectively?

If they are only going to switch the high-speed differential signals, the above solution could work, they have to do a very good layout work, since these switches are passive they will not regenerate the signal so signal integrity is going to be a concern.

I don't know of any test we've ever made cascading these switches, I recommend that they get some EVMs to test the signal integrity.

    Regards.

  • Hi Elias-san,

    Thank you for your comment.

I understood that if they design correctly not the high speed lines but also the DDC and AUX channel lines, HD3SS3412 switches could be used. However, using in cascaded design we will ask customer for evaluation and confirm if they would need a repeater device.

    Best Regards,
