DS100BR210 power consumption

Question posted on behalf of another E2E user:

What is the maximum 2.5V supply current consumption for the following scenario:

  • Both channels running
  • 10G-KR Rate, VOD = 1.1V
  • 2.5V mode
  • Include any potential consideration for Serial Bus, or anything else adding to 2.5V supply

Is it the same as the max quoted in the Electrical Characteristics table?

  • The current consumption highlighted in the Electrical Characteristics table matches the conditions specified in the question, except with VOD=1000mV rather than the specified VOD=1100mV. The max current consumption in the Electrical Characteristics table is 63 mA.

Based on the data in Figure 9 (supply current vs. output voltage setting, see below), we can see that the supply current increases by ~6% going from VOD=1000mV to VOD=1100mV (50mA to 53mA). To estimate the maximum current consumption for VOD=1100mV instead of VOD=1000mV, we can assume the 63mA (max) at VOD=1000mV scales to approximately 67mA (max) at VOD=1100mV. Therefore, the maximum current consumption under the stated conditions would be approximately 67mA. This includes both channels running and assumes the SMBus is active.
