SN65LVCP114 - I2C_SEL and CS pin

Hello Team,

Please allow me to ask you a few questions about I2C_SEL and CS pin for SN65LVCP114.

[Q1]
When using in I2C mode, when do you use CS pin=Low ? I believe it should be kept high.

[Q2]
When using in GPIO mode, what happens when CS=High, I2C_SEL=Low ? The device would be set to GPIO mode but is I2C interface still enabled and accessible ?

Best Regards,

Kawai

  • Hi Kawai-san,

    [Q1]

CS pin is used in case you wan to disable I²C interface. Perhaps you have a lot of LVCP114 devices and CS helps to select specific device.

This could be seen as a read/write enable too.

    [Q2]

You are right, when CS=high, I²C interface is functional you can read and write registers.

If I2C_sel is low, GPIO mode is enable, that means it doesn't matter what you write on register, LVCP114 will behave accordingly to IO pins.

  • Hello Moises-san,

I apologize for my delay. Thank you for the answers.

I believe that CS pin = Low would be only needed when the device slave address is overlapped.
