DS125BR820 gain >1 for VID to VOD

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS125BR820, DS125BR800A

Look at using the DS125BR820 device.  I understand the equalization functions of the device but how do you get true gain out of it it is unclear.  It appears that the device cannot get more than unity gain as in the output can never be more than input at level 6.  See table 3-5 in the eval board quick start guide.    What I need it true gain plus equalization to recover a lossy path.  Can you tell me if the device generate more than a unit gain from VID to VOD?

  • Hi Stephen,

The DS125BR820 does not have much higher than unity gain through the part when it comes to output different amplitude. The purpose behind this is to maintain linearity to preserve the precursor and postcursor information contained within the incoming signal as it moves through the DS125BR820 channel. In this case, we rely more on the endpoint FPGA or ASIC to provide higher gain as necessary.

If you are seeking a device that will potentially give higher than unity gain (depending on the incoming VID), you can refer to our previous generation DS125BR800A, which does not have as linear a channel, but does provide more options in terms of gain.
