Analog Launch PAD (ALP) using with LMH1983 on user board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH1983, ALP, USB2ANY

Hi Team,

I am trying to connect Analog Launch PAD with LMH1983 on user board. However, I am failing to be connected. Is there any restriction using ALP with with boards other than EVM ? Please give us your advice.

Do you need to use ATMEL FPGA which is on the EVM to interface between PC and LMH1983 ?

Here is my condition.
- LMH1983 SMBus slave address is set to 0x66.
- SMbus SCL/SDA/GND is connected between the user board and USB2ANY.
- My PC succeeded connecting with LMH1983EVM

Best Regards,

Kawai

  • Hi Kawa-San,

I am not sure what version of Window Operating System you are using. LMH1983 EVM software was designed around Window XP. I have put together a user guide for installing  LMH1983EVM with Window 7. Please attached note this document. Please review this document and use the instructions to install LMH1983EVM software in Win7 environment.

  • Hi Nasser-san,

I am still not able to run ALP with my Windows7 64bit OS.

Following the instruction, I installed the drivers from Cypress, however, I still have "UNKNOWN" shown in Device Manager window. Could you try if you can install the driver without an error with Windows7 64bit OS ?

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
  • Hi Kawai-San,

I have been able to use ALP software on window 7 PCs. Also, we've had a couple of customers using this on window 7 as well.

When you get UNKNOWN DEVICE, please update the driver with the cypress inf file. This should take care of the problem.

    Regards,,nasser

  • Hi Nasser-san,

Yes, I selected Cypress inf file to update the driver, however, this driver would not be updated and have no change.

Could you please check if your PC is 64bit OS ? One of my another PC which is Windows 7 (32bit OS) PC is working fine.

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
  • Hi Kawai-san,

Sorry for the delay on this question. The lab PCs and laptops we use in our lab are 64-bit. My laptop is a 64-bit OS and I will attempt to reproduce your issue this week with the steps Nasser recommended.

There's also something I'm wondering if you could try. When windows is starting up, can you press F8 repeatedly until a prompt shows up on the screen? One of the options will be "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement." Please select this option and then allow Windows to open regularly. Please let me know if the problem is still there after this test.

    Regards,

    Michael
  • Hello Michael-san,

Thank you for your advice. I will try that later and let you know.
I was also advised to uninstall all ALP software from my PC and install the latest version, which I haven't tried yet.

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
  • Hi Kawai-san,

My apologies, as I have not been able to make progress with this issue due to other priorities that came up. Are you still facing problems after doing an uninstall and re-install of ALP?

    Regards,

    Michael
  • Hello Michael-san,

Sorry that I was not able to trying uninstall and re-install, because, I worried losing the older version of the ALP.

I just have tried re-installing, however, I was not able to success installing the driver for LMH1983EVM.

I went through the ALP Help -> Driver Installation procedure, but, failed to update the driver. I am not sure what the problem is... still shows "Unknown Device" in the Hardware manager window.

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
  • Hi Kawai-san,

It may be possible that you are selecting a different software driver update than the one ALP is looking for. I have sent you a separate e-mail to continue this discussion offline.

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • Hello Michael-san,

Thank you for the file. I was able to successfully connect LMH1983EVM with my Windows7 64bit OS machine.

It seems that I failed in downloading the file correctly.

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
