TLK10232EVM: BER , adjustment mechanism description for connection of XAUI mode to SFI 10GB

Part Number: TLK10232EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10232, TLK10031

Hello Team,

Couple of questions on TLK10031 and TLK10232:

  • ·         why there’s relatively low parameter of  BER=3x10-12 on the evaluation board (A), and is it possible on base of TLK10031/TLK10232 to reach BER=10-14...10-15 in optical 10G channel (B)?

BER=3x10-12 is mentioned here: SFI Test Report TLK10232

  • ·         we need adjustment mechanism description for connection of XAUI mode to SFI 10GB

I have seen this E2E link , is there any other technical notes on this topic?

Best regards,

Mizanur

  • Hi Mizanur,

A low BER can be achieved with a totally closed input eye if the signal impairments are primarily "equalizable" - that is, they result from physical media losses/reflections/etc. that can be compensated by a decision feedback equalizer (DFE). This capability of the device is encompassed by the jitter tolerance specification, which indicates BER < 1e-12 operation in the presence of channel attenuation, additional random and deterministic jitter, and broadband random noise.

    Regards,
    Luis
