TLK10232: Clock device selection for REFCLK

Hi Team,

The Tr/Tf requirement for REFCLK looks very strict and it's defined as 10-90% range, not 20-80%(Recently, almost supplier use 20-80% for this spec). So my customer is struggling to find one.

1. If this Tr/Tf spec can not be satisfied, what kind of issues are expected?
2. Can't you redefine 20-80% Tr/Tf spec from 10-90% Tr/Tf spec somehow?

Trise/fall for REFCLK is 10% to 90%, the value of 20-80% is for transmitter characteristics.

Do you have any information about recommended oscillator which can meet Tr/Tf requirement for REFCLK?

How should we estimate 10-90% tr/tf at the point of REFCLK pin from the transmitter cheracteristics defined as 20-80%?

Hi Takashi-san,

We recommend using a clock synthesizer IC along with a crystal or crystal oscillator to provide a low-jitter differential clock signal to the REFCLK inputs. Examples would include CDCM6208 or one of the LMK series of devices from SVA. Here is an application note that talks about the combined performance of CDCM6208 with TLK10002:
