DS32ELX0421: About the redundant driver

Part Number: DS32ELX0421
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS32ELX0124

Hi team,

Please let me ask you a question about the redundant driver
  of DS32ELX0421.

Q1) Is there any difference in performance between TxOUT0 and
        TxOUT1(redundant driver)?

The reason why I ask the above question is as follows.

When my customer evaluated the communication between DS32ELX0421 and DS32ELX0124
    by using TxOUT0 through a 20m CAT6 cable,the communication was  performed normally.
However, when he evaluated the communication by changing the output from TxOUT0
to Txout1, the communication was not performed normally.
*Other evaluation conditions were the same.

Best regards.

  • Hi Dennis-san,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I am looking forward to your reply.

    Best regards.

  • Hi, Tokumoto-san,

The DS32ELX0421 provides a secondary serial output, supporting redundancy applications. Your customer can either use a TxOUT0, or both TxOUT0/1 simultaneously. Please see more details in the Application Information on page 18 of the datasheet.

    REDUNDANCY APPLICATIONS
The DS32ELX0421 has two high speed CML serial outputs. SMBus register control allows the device to use a
single output exclusively, or both outputs simultaneously. This allows a single serializer to transmit data to two
independant receiving systems, a primary and secondary endpoint. Some applications require a redundancy
measure in case the primary signal path is compromised. The secondary output can be activated “on-the-go”, if a
problem is detected on the primary link. See the Redundancy / Fail Over Configuration section located under
    Register Recipes

  • Hi Dennis-san,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply and explanations.

I understood as follows from your reply.

TxOUT0 and TxOUT1 are CML drivers with the same performance
(electrical specification and timing specification), so if the communication
is not performed normally by changing output from TxOUT0 to TxOUT1,
the cause will be not the difference in performance between CML drivers but other causes.

      Is my understanding correct?

Please let me ask an additional question.

If my customer uses both TxOUT0/1 simultaneously,
will there be anything he should be careful of regarding layout
      etc.?

    Thank you and best regards.
