TCA9617B IBIS Model

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9617B

I’m trying to use the IBIS model from the TI website to run a simulation in ADS with the TCA9617B, but I’m having trouble implementing it. Is there an example you can show of how I’d use the IBIS model in a simulation, or at least tell me how to set up the model with the correct part in ADS? I’m just trying to do a simulation with an input of a typical clock signal, and then look at what the output will be depending on the stub seen and pull up resistors used.  Any help is appreciated, thank you.

  • Additional information:

we’re trying to use this part to isolate the clock and data lines of an MDIO bus going out a far distance (hence the simulation work). In the spec, it does not mention the functionality of driving signals faster than 1MHz, but our MDIO bus is operating at 3.125MHz. Are there any limitations keeping the device from working with a 3.125Mhz signal?

  • Hello John.

While it is possible to hit higher than 1 MHz speeds with the device if the loading conditions permit, there are several components that play into this.

One significant portion will be the propagation delays of the device, and how much they cut into your timing budget.

  • Any update ? You mentioned that it is possible to run faster than 1MHz depending on the loading conditions, and since the spec notes the loading conditions for up to 1MHz only, do you have the conditions for higher frequencies? Also, still need help with IBIS model, if possible.
