General call address of PCA9555

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9555

Hello,

The datasheet describe PCA9555 don;t respond to the general call address. what does general call address mean? Do we just need send device address to access PCA9555 only? Thank you.

  • Hello Patrick,

The I2C specification allows for the ability to send a command to all the devices on the bus assuming the slave devices support the general call address feature.  If the slave device doesn't support it that it will ignore the command.  The PCA9555 doesn't support that feature therefore it will ignore commands using general call address, which is normally 0.

I have attached the section of the I2C that this pertains too.
