PCA9306: Design without Vref1

Part Number: PCA9306

Hi,

May I know what will happen or will the design become unstable if the Vref1 is not connected to any power source? Or is it connection that must be connected?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks and best regards,

KH

  • Hello Kum,
You need this connection to ensure proper operation. It will not damage anything on the PCA9306, but you will likely have a voltage between Vdup and Vref1 in the "high" state, which means depending on the devices operating voltage range, you could damage the devices on the Vref1 side.

  • Hello Kum,
Can you explain why you are asking this question? I want to the reason why someone would do this so that we keep this in mind when designing future parts. If this is a viable use case that is good for use to know.

  • Hi Francis,

Mostly is because there is not enough pins between board to board to be used. Not enough pin to pull the power over. I will increase the pin count on the connector side instead. Thank you so much!
