PCA9306: series two PCA9306 on same path

Part Number: PCA9306

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

As title, have any risk that if we use in series two PCA9306 on same path?

Because our I2C will pass around 100cm cable, so we would like use 2pcs PCA9306.

  • Hi Shu-Cheng,

There's no inherent risk to using two of these devices on the same bus aside from the normal considerations of a long line. However, they're not typically used to compensate for a long bus cable.

What function are you trying to complete with the PCA9306s? These devices are voltage translators that can operate as switches but they do not isolate capacitance on either side of the device. Given a long cable connecting devices, it's likely this system will have a large amount of bus capacitance (possibly above what the standard allows) that could slow rising edges and decrease the operable data rate. If this is what you're trying to do, I'd recommend a buffer device instead. What capacitance are you expecting on the line and what data rates are you planning to operate at?

    Regards,
    Eric
