I’m working on changing our isolated RS-485 interface. Currently we use optos to isolate TX, RX, and Enable. I’m thinking about using ISO7231C instead.
Is this a good part for me to use, or would you recommend something else?
I see that TI also has dedicated parts that are specifically for isolated RS-485. However, the ISO7231C looks to be more cost-effective.

TI has a wide range of solutions for isolated RS-485 solutions. Depending on your requirements such as cost, space saving, speed, supply requirements, etc, you can use either a separate isolator and transceiver, or a combined version. Note that you also will need an isolated power supply that provides power across the isolation barrier. On our website we have a parametric search list that allows you to define certain parameters and eliminate all other device that don't suit your application.
the most integrated solutions are our ISO-T devices, the ISO35-T, ISO3082-T, and ISO1176-T. These devices also include a transformer driver that allows you to drive an external transformer plus rectifier. There are also evaluationmodules and user guides available.
Please go onto our website, click on INTERFACE, then on RS-485. You receive an entire list of components with a range of adjustable search parameters on the top.
One of my favorites is the ISO35T. This devices is a full duplex, isolated transceiver, with up to 1Mbps, thus well suited for long-haul transmission and low-EMI. If you prefer a half-duplex configuration simply connect the Y and Z outputs to the A and B inputs.
