ISO1541 cascade

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1541, ISO1540

Hello ,

I would like to use 4 ISO1541 in my power supply card design in the following structure :

I2c from external MCU         >                 first stage internal I2C            >         current sensing of power supply via I2C

------------------------------------ISO1541------------------------>-----------------ISO1541-------->----------i2c Current sensor

                                                                                       |

                                                                                        ------>----------ISO1541 ------>-----------I2C current sensor 2

                                                                                       |

                                                                                       -------->----------ISO1541----->------------I2C current sensor 3

I hope I managed to explain my intentions , my question is : can I cascading the ISO1541 to each other (as I draw above) ? I would like to cascade three in parallel and after it one in serial - can I do it ?

Best regards

Dotan

  • Hi Dotan,

    The manner in which you are looking to use the isolated I2C devices is correct. It should work as you describing just fine.

    Are you looking to have a single master system that supplies the clock at all times? I notices you have the ISO1541 in your diagram above. If your system will be multi-master, then you will need to use the ISO1540.

    Please let me know if you have any other questions,

    John

  • Hi John

    I am using Dotan's configuration above as well but one master connected to external MCU ISO1540 devices. Questions:
    1) Should this be done as MCU SIDE 1 ISO1540 SIDE 2 -----to------- SIDE 2 ISO1540 SIDE 1 --------------- -i2c Current sensor
    to------- SIDE 2 ISO1540 SIDE 1 --------------- -i2c Current sensor 2
    to------- SIDE 2 ISO1540 SIDE 1 --------------- -i2c Current sensor 3
    That is when interfacing ISO1540/1 in cascade you must connect SIDE 2 to SIDE 2
    2) Can ISO1540 be cascaded SIDE 1/SIDE 2 SIDE 1/SIDE 2?

    I used ISO1540 to allow for common BOM parts I could have used ISO1541
    Regards
