CAN Interoperability

Dear specialist

Is any TI CAN devices are interoperable with any CAN devices?
Have you evaluated anything about the above?

Best regards.

  • Hi Alpha,

That is a very good question. Per the ISO11898 standard all CAN transceivers reject common mode noise and drive differential voltages and receive differential voltages. Therefore, they will be interoperable.

Furthermore, CAN transceiver go through conformance testing at a certified test house called C&S Group (Communications and Systems Group). In this conformance test the CAN transceivers are tested on a heterogeneous network (the CAN transceiver trying to be certified mixed with other CAN transceivers in the market). This network will be tested for ground shifts, faults like CANH and CANL shorted to GND and VCC, and all the different modes. This test certifies that a transceiver is interoperable with other CAN transceivers in the market.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
