DP83848 line voltage

Hi,

I have a question about the signals TD + TD- RD + and RD- , from Ethernet Phy component, DP83848, these signals must be able to tolerate a differential voltage even if the component is not powered, so as not to short circuit the remote transmitter.

May I know:

  • Max differential voltage on "TD/RD" powered circuit and not powered circuit
  • Max common mode voltage on "TD /RD" powered circuit and not powered circuit

Thanks and best Regards

  • Hi Pol,

The expected max diff voltage on the circuit, powered or unpowered, is that of the IEEE spec for 10base-t signaling. +/- 2.5V

Similarly, the max common mode voltage of the device should stay within the IEEE specifications. With a common mode choke, common mode voltage is not expected to cause much issue in a typical application.

    Best Regards,
