UART to RS-485 converter solution

Dear Sirs

Does TI provide UART to RS-485 converter solution?

BRS

  • Hi Nat,

Yes. You can find UART devices here:

    www.ti.com/.../uart-products.page

These can translate a data bus into a serial format for transmission over an RS-485 line.

For converting the serial logic-level signals from the UART to a differential RS-485 signal you can use an RS-485 transceiver:

    www.ti.com/.../rs-485-products.page

If you need help selecting devices based on certain application requirements please let me know.

  • Dear Max

    Thank you for your information.

Could you give some comments for the following TI's IC design?

    TKS

  • Nat,

I could check the HVD10 circuitry; for the other devices, it would be best to post in the respective forums for each device in order to get the right people to review it. For the HVD10, though, it looks like the DE pin is tied high, meaning the device is always used as a transmitter. Is this your intention? This would make it impossible for other nodes to transmit on the same bus, so this could only be used for "broadcast" (one transmitter / one or more receiver) applications. You should also make sure that a decoupling capacitor is used on the VCC rail; 0.1 uF would be a good value. You should also make sure to terminate the RS-485 signal using a resistor between the "A" and "B" line that matches the characteristic impedance of the cabling you plan to use (120 Ohms is common).
