TL16C752D-Q1: Question about datasheet description

Guru 15510 points
Part Number: TL16C752D-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL16C752D,

Hi,

I have questions about TL16C752D.

TL16C752B is EOL, so our customer are going to migrate from TL16C752B to TL16C752D-Q1.
In these device datasheet, there are difference between these two devices.

Q1.
In TL16C752D-Q1 datasheet page.34 "Table.11 MCR Bit settings",
there are following description at MCR bit[7].
**********************************************************
This bit reflects the inverse of the CLKSEL pin value at
the trailing edge of the RESET pulse.
**********************************************************
This description are not written in TL16C752B datasheet.
By the way, it seem there are no CLKSEL pin on TL16C752D and also TL16C752B.

Is it typo?
If there are no CLKSEL pin, the above MCR bit[7] can only be set by accessing the register, is it correct?

Q2.
In TL16C752D-Q1 datasheet page.22 "Table.4 Interrupt Control Functions",
IIR[5-0] values are 000000 for Modem status.
But page.36 "Table.15 Interrupt Priority List" Modem interrupt value are 001000.
Which value are correct? 000000? 001000?

In TL16C752B datasheet page.11 "Table.4 Interrupt Control Functions",
IIR[5-0] values are 000000 for Modem status.
And page.30 "Table.16 Interrupt Priority List" Modem interrupt value are also 000000.

Q3.
In TL16C752D datasheet page.31 "Table.8 FCR Bit Settings",
bit[7:6] value = 00 is defined as 1 characters,
value = 01 is defined as 4 characters.
But in TL16C752B datasheet page.26 "Table.9 FCR Bit Settings",
bit[7:6] value = 00 is defined as 8 characters,
value = 01 is defined as 16 characters.

Have this bit[7:6] value 00 and 01 definition been changed at TL16C752D?
Or is it typo in TL16C752D datasheet?

Q4.
We thought software for TL16C752B can be used for TL16C752D without modification.
Do we need to modify the TL16C752B's software if we want to use the software for TL16C752D?

Q5.
We couldn't find Errata sheet for TL16C752D, is there any errata sheet for this device?
If there are software modification guide for TL16C752B->TL16C752D, could you please provide us?

best regards,
g.f.

  • Hello g.f.,

TL16C752D is intended to be a direct replacement for TL16C752B that does not require software modifications. I believe those discrepancies that you pointed out are indeed typos, then, but we will double-check it and get back to you.

    Regards,
    Max
  • Hello g.f.

As Max said, this device is a direct replacement for version B, but version D include new features that can helps to do other applications.
I will try to answer your questions as you ask.

A1.- Yes, that is a typo. CLKSEL means CLK selection but that is not a pin. With MCR bit 7 you can control this option and this is a frequency divider.

A2.- In this case, is also a typo. The right table is tables on version B.

A3.- This is also a typo. The right value is like version B.

A4.- Yes, this is our main objective. You won't need to modified anything.

A5.- We don't have any Errata because up to today we couldn't find any issue in this kind of changes. This Version also fixed some issues that we found in version C and we have an errata for that case.

Our new version include a new register where you can find other options for this UART. You can find more information on page 36.

Please, let us know if you have any other question.

    Regards
    Francisco
  • Hi Max and Francisco,

    Thank you for the answers.
I understood all and I will awswer to my customer.
