ISO5452-Q1: Input to Disable Gate Driver Outputs?

Part Number: ISO5452-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO5452, UCC21520

Hello,

For the ISO5452, can I drive the RESET pin with an active low signal to disable the outputs? I have windowed comparators that trigger for overcurrent events on the 3 phases and then another to trigger for a overload on the DC bus. I want to feed the output of those comparators to a logic gate where the output will bypass the processor and go directly to the gate driver to open the IGBTs in case of a overcurrent or overload event. The reason for this is to reduce propagation delays and latency.

I see the UCC21520 has a DISABLE pin. That is exactly what I want. Can the RESET pin on the ISO5452 do what the DISABLE pin does?

Thanks

Jason

  • Hi Jason,

ISO5452 has DESAT protection function which is used to turn off driver output in case of over current/short circuit fault conditions. Would you consider use the integrated protection functions?

Yes. /RST can be used for pulling the driver output to low. Please check Table 1 of datasheet for more info on device function modes. Let us know of any further questions.

    With Regards,

  • Hi Xiong,

    Thanks for the fast reply.

I am using the desat protection as well. I am using the windowed comparator as a redundant safety measure.
