TCAN334: TCAN334DR protection

Part Number: TCAN334
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD234

Hai,

In our current design we are using TCAN334DR part and for this design we are going to conduct ARAI test ,

As a part of test this particular IC output pins CAN H and CAN L will get shorted to VCC_12V/VCC_24V for 1 min for which IC should get protected from this test,

Please confirm whether  CAN H and CAN L can sustain this voltage if not what sort of protection to be provided for IC to get pass this test

Regards

Jyothi

  • Unfortunately, this device could be damaged by any voltages on the CAN pins exceeding +/- 14 V, as indicated by the "absolute maximum" ratings table in the datasheet. To pass this test, you could design a circuit which disconnects the transceiver from the bus when high voltages are detected or you could switch to a transceiver with a wider absolute maximum voltage rating such as SN65HVD234.
