UCC5310: Vcc2 capacitor

I have some question about Cvcc2.

On the datasheet, the tantalum capacitor(>10uF) is recommended if the bias power supply output is located a long distance from VCC2.

However for Vcc1 it is recommended 1uF. Why the large capacitor is recommended for Vcc2 more than Vcc1? (It is to drive for IGBT?)

The customer would like to reduce the large capacitor (tantalum cap).　（The FET is MOSFET on their board.)

Can we reduce that capacitor? If it is not,what should we concern?.

Hello Koji-san,

A large capacitor is recommended for VCC2 in order to supply the gate enough peak current to quickly turn-on the FET.

If adding a large electrolytic or tantalum capacitor is not preferred, it is okay to put only a MLCC such as a 10-uF 50V.

Probe the bias supply and make sure the ripple voltage is small and meets the design requirements.
