SN65HVS885: Open wire fault detection

The SN65HVS885 would have been the ideal solution for my application, had it had Open circuit Fault detection inbuilt into it.

Can you please suggest another part having the functionality?

Or any suggestions how it could be implemented for 24V digital inputs?

TIC12400 is suitable.
Unable to get samples, though.. can you please help?
I have ordered through distributors, but they have a lead time.

Hi Jayant,

I discussed your requirement with Adam. While you evaluate the TIC12400, another option may be our new device for 24-V digital inputs - the ISO1212. We are testing an application circuit for wire-break detection with this device. I can share information on that circuit over email, if you can send me an email at anantkamath@ti.com.

Thanks for the info.

In my application, I need to monitor 32 potential free contacts. Wire break detection is an absolute must. The ISO12400 seems to be a perfect solution for this requirement.

However, after a quick look at the ISO1212 data sheet, it could be very useful for another project which needs only 4 digital inputs. I have sent you an email for more details.

Adam,

Do I need transient suppressors on the TIC12400 inputs?
My application is in a noisy industrial environment, works on 24V instead of 12V Automotive as referred in the datasheet applications.

Hello Jayant,

It depends on the transients. If the transients will exceed the ABS MAX ratings in the datasheet then you will need transient suppression.
