SN6505A: input : 5V to 9V; output : isolated +15V/0.5A and -15V/0.5A

Part Number: SN6505A

Customer wants to use SN6505A for

input : 5V to 9V; output : isolated +15V/0.5A and -15V/0.5A

Can SN6505A be used here? Also, could you help suggesting the Transformer P/N And changes needed in SN6505AEVM for the output ?

  • Hi Prahlad,

Thanks for using the ISO E2E forum.

These specs are unfortunately outside the 6505's operating parameters.
Input voltage: 6505 can handle 5.5V max (operational) and 6V (Abs Max).

For the lowest case input of 5V, to 15V isolated output, we are looking at a transformer turns ratio of a little more than 3 (to account for diode drops etc.), so this means that the load current will be amplified by the same amount (>3x) on the primary side. Each output would take for example, 0.5A * 3 = 1.5A from the primary side (for a total of 3A), which also exceeds the operational max load current that the 6505 can provide (1A).

Is there flexibility from the customer side on any of this - can the load current/voltage be reduced ? can a pre-regulator be used on the input ?
