ULN2803A: What is the absolute minimum input voltage?

Part Number: ULN2803A

Hello support team,

I have some questions about ULN 2803A.

The absolute maximum rating of VI (Input voltage) is 30 V.
Then, how much is the absolute minimum voltage of VI?
Doesn't this IC break even if a large negative voltage is applied to VI?

Best regards,
M. Tachibana

  • Hi M. Tachibana,

You are correct, this is not listed in the datasheet. The minimum rating for the ULN2803A is based on the ESD diode integrated, and that would limit the minimum voltage to -0.3V.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Alek-san,

    Thank you for teaching me.

I understood that the absolute minimum voltage of VIN is -0.3 V.
By the way, is there data on the negative instantaneous withstand voltage of VIN?
    (Time, voltage, etc.)

    Best regards,
    M. Tachibana
  • Hi M. Tachibana,

Because this part was released over 20 years ago, I am unable to find any specific test data for this parameter. Since then, we have not gone through the effort to characterize the negative instantaneous withstand voltage of VIN. If you have a specific negative transient you are worried about, you can send a scope shot and I can see if any design engineers can help out with an analysis based on the circuit design for the IC. Otherwise, you can test a few units and see if they are able to withstand your conditions.

    Thanks,

    Alek Kaknevicius

  • Hello Alek-san,

I am sorry that my reply was very late.

I understood that there are no detailed parameters since this device is old.
I recommended customers to take measures not to exceed the absolute maximum ratings.
    Thank you very much.

    Sincerely
    M. Tachibana
