TCAN1043-Q1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043-Q1, TCAN1043

TCAN1043-Q1 has no "SPLIT" foot compared with NXP (TJA1043). What are the practical applications and how to deal with them?

  • Hi Meng,

The SPLIT terminal has typically been used as a common mode voltage stabilizer for a split termination network on a CAN bus. This stabilization can help common mode voltage variability and radiated emissions during operation.
The TCAN1043 does not include this terminal since its common mode voltage output has been optimized so as to eliminate the need for this stabilizer output.
We are seeing the SPLIT terminal implemented less on CAN PHY transceivers, and optimized transceiver designs like the TCAN1043 are becoming more and more common. Therefore, in a pin-to-pin replacement from TJA1043 to TCAN1043, the terminal previously used for SPLIT (pin 11) may be left unconnected. Functional operation should not be affected.
