TRS232: Questions about TRS232

Part Number: TRS232

  • TRS232/232E datasheet recommend 1uF in C1/C2/C3/C4 but can TRS232/232E support 0.1uF in C1/C2/C3/C4?
  • is there any side effect if using 0.1uF in C1/C2/C3/C4 with TRS232/232E?
  • what is the internal pull up resistor value in pin10/11 and internal pull down resistor value in pin8/13?
  • Peter,

I think there are two drawbacks to use 0.1uF instead of 1uF capacitor in TRS232. 1) the part may generate a smaller output voltage than the specification of the datasheet, due to the fact that the on die parasitic capacitor become more dominant comparing to external ones, which will impact the efficiency of the charge pump; 2) for the same reason, the part may not be able to support heavy load. The internal pull up resistance value is about 150kOhm for pin10/11. The pull down resistance is about 5kOhm for pin8/13, which is the case for all RS232 receiver devices. Please let me know if you have further question. Thanks!
