MAX3243E: The difference between GD75232PWR and MAX3243E

Part Number: MAX3243E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GD75232

Dear Team,

My customer has a question about MAX3243E and GD75232PWR.

I would like to know why GD75232PWR need +/-12V supply voltage, but MAX3243E didn't.

What is the purpose of the negative supply voltage?

Thank you.

  • Hi Jim,

RS-232 driver outputs need to be able to produce voltages that are higher than +5 V and lower than -5 V. The MAX3243E has a charge pump circuit built in that is able to generate higher-voltage positive and negative supply rails based on a single power supply input. The GD75232 does not have this charge pump built in, so the positive and negative rails need to be supplied to the chip from an external source.
