TPS65982: Programming the SPI Flash from aadrdvark programmer

Hello,

I am attempting to program the flash via the I2C interface using the arrdvark programmer.

I am able to see my device on the I2C interface (host interface fw update) and I appear to be able to program the SPI device successfully using one of the intel templates and .bin files I generated from the application customizer.

It appears to program and verify the flash has programmed, but when I go to the configuration and read back some registers it does not appear to have been successful....and the mode still appears to be BOOT rather than APP..

Any guidance on what could be the issue?

Hello Praneet and Happy New Year.

I have noticed one other interesting observation. When attempting to program the SPI FLASH, I noticed I do not see any activity on the SPI flash interface when programming. The FLASH is being powered from the LDO_3V3 supply (I measured it so the part is being powered correctly)

However, if my bit file is incorrect would it stop the TPS from programming the flash?

I have attempted to attach my bin file but I cannot upload it as your site will not allow me to upload a .bin file? any ideas on how I can do this?

If you've programmed a wrong firmware on the device in earlier iteration causing it to not boot-up, it would not be in a state to receive the patch chucks over I2C and push then to sFLASH. Are you able to access the exposed registers using the host-interface utility? Can you please read the value of MODE register when the issue is seen?

Hi Praneet,

using the host interface utility, when I read the mode register it reads BOOT (mode 0x3). I am also attaching a zip file with the bin file. I simply grabbed an example to use to program the SPI flash.

Upon POR I can see the TPS is attempting to read from the flash as I see the spi_clk active but it is obviously not successful. Can you clarify how loading firmware into the SPI will not allow it to boot correctly. Is there a specifc setting in the .bin file or a register setting that would cause the TPS to abort the loot?
