Dear Forum,

I am developing a small USB-Charger. As a result, I need to limit the current to 500mA. The best would be a negotiation to the devices that are connected to the charging circuit. Or any other current limiter with 500mA.

I have a LiPo 3.7V 1700mAh that can be discharged with 1C. As a result I need to limit this current for the connected charging devices to 500mA.

What do you recommend for this application? There should be iPhone and Samsung etc. devices connected to load their batteries.

For the current limiter, take a look at TPS2553. For handshaking and current limiting, take a look at TPS2546.

Dear Eric,

thank you very much for the answer. This is what I have looking for.

One question, can I let the STATUS Pin floating on TPS2546 when not used? I cannot find this information in the datasheet.

STATUS is an open drain output and can be either left open or tied to GND if not used.

Dear Eric,

I am strugling setting up the TPS2546 to SDP USB 2.0 that limits 500mA.

Can you please tell me which configuration for CTL1, CTL2, CTL3 and ILIM_SEL must be choosen?

I guess it is according to Table 3 in the Datasheet SDP1 configuration. But here are 4 setups for SDP1.
