TUSB211: Support cable length

Part Number: TUSB211

Hi Sirs,

Sorry to bother you.

We survey USB 2.0 re-driver which support 10m cable.

We saw there discussed on E2E before.

You said

for single TUSB211 is 2-3 meters max to pass Near-End Eye. Using two TUSB211 is actually about the same due to voltage drop across the cable, the better quality cable can extend to ~4 meters with 2.

You also said

The TUSB211 improves the signal's slew rate but not the DC level, so the maximum trace length will depend also on the parasitic resistance of the cable. We have positive results on 10m cable using two TUSB211 in cascade (one at each side of the cable).

It's confuse me, if we use two TUSB211 can support 10m cable or not?

If Yes, have any environmental conditions or test report can share?

If No, does TI have any solution can do it?

Thanks!!

  • Hi,

one TUSB211 can support up to 2-3m of cable depending on signal quality of host and cable quality. This is in configuration
    Host --- Cable -- TUSB211 - Test fixture (Near-End Mask)
With low loss cable and two TUSB211 it might pass up to 4m of cable.

Any tests with longer cables, which will have higher DC losses, we did were functional tests.

At the moment we do not have a released solution for longer cables.

    Best regards
    Cevin
