TPS65986: CC pin default status and power switching sequence description

Part Number: TPS65986

i  have two quesitons about the TPS65986

1. what is the initial default status for CC pin during power on reset.  (Rp)DPF?UFP(Rd)?

2. what is the power swtiching sequence between PP_5V0  and PP_HV power path. I think it should  turn off current power path, then a bit time later to turn on another power path, need double confirm.

Thanks.

  • Hi Hardy,

    1. The TPS65986 can be configured to be either a DFP or UFP during power on reset. Whenever the TPS65986 boots, it will need to read the SPI flash configuration before it can enable an Rp or Rd.

    2. When transitioning from a 5V to higher voltage contract on PPHV, PPHV switch will close first followed by PP5V opening shortly after.

    Thank you,
    Eric

understand, and i have another question which is about the power supply during the TYPE C communication.

if our TPS65986 is configured as DRP mode, and the TPS65986 is power down by the system,  when  TYPE C adapter connect to the TYPE C interface which is controlled by TPS65986. i want to know if the adapter will advertise the 5V to TPS65986 system, and we can use this 5V to wake up the system.

Thank for in advance for your reply

  • Hi Hardy,

Yes, the TPS65986 will boot in dead battery mode in this configuration. There is an internal VBUS LDO that will generate the LDO_3V3 rail when the device is powered from VBUS.

    Thank you,
