TPS65983: Stand-Alone Operation

Part Number: TPS65983

Hi Team,

Can the TPS65983 be used stand-alone, without any host MCU, as a downstream port for USB 3.0, power distribution, and 65 W charging?

Thanks,

Mitchell

  • Hi Mitchell,

The TPS6598x family of devices will require an external SPI Flash chip to load the application configuration from. It is not required to have a host MCU to control the TPS6598x. You can create a configuration that best fits your application using the App Customization Tool that can be downloaded from the TPS65982 product page. From there, you can create a Full-Flash binary image that will be loaded onto the SPI Flash chip. You can do this with the FTDI board that is included with some of our EVMs or with a Total Phase Aardvark USB to I2C/SPI interface.
Once the TPS6598x boots, it will load the application configuration from the SPI Flash and set all of its registers to operate how you configured it to.

    Thank you,
    Eric
